A precious connected life
In the midst of closing another year, I reflect back on the journey I’ve walked, and the connections I’ve made. This got me searching through photos, and I came across this snapshot of an inspirational piece I read while in the bathroom of a dear friend of mine. It brought up the connection we share. Triggering me to notice that I’ve fine-tuned a layer of trusting myself. In how I connect with others, and my inner drive to live an authentic, connected life.
Josje invited me to be a henna model for her new site (yes, check it out – Toko Mehndi). I cannot tell you how YAY I felt, as henna is one of my favourite decorative, meditative, connecting, sister bonding experiences! Yep, she’s a henna artist, and I was lucky enough to get my footsies, and hand adorned with her awesome work. During the visit, I took a snap of the beautiful Dalai Lama piece she had taped to the door of her bathroom.
It’s a reminder for me. Whenever I come across it, it reminds me to keep my own inner connection to my Yes and No, strong and healthy. It helps me release stagnant energy, to free up space to expand out to others with love in my heart. It reminds me of this glowing woman, and others like her, that I’m proud to call a friend. Though we’ve spent little ‘time’ together, I feel her pure and honest presence. I know her essence. An inner connection, a sensation that emerged in my body the first time we met. A feeling that I already know her. Even from across a room. This inner feeling that I’ve learned to trust in myself when it happens. The people who trigger this inside of me are my tribe; the ones who I don’t need to see or speak to every week or day. There are no have to’s, or need to’s, or shoulds. Those who can be on the other side of the planet for years even, but as soon as we meet again, it’s good.
The piece reminds me of how I want to connect with myself, and others. Of course, for me, it’s directly anchored in an existing friendship, but I hope it inspires you as it has me.
A precious human life
“every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to have woken up, I am alive. I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it, I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry, or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”

Below are a few photos we took that day. Josje travels around Dutch and European festivals. She’s found wanderlusting around India at times, but is usually based in the Netherlands for anyone who wants to decorate themselves with a henna tattoo. I definitely recommend it.
