Have you ever caught yourself lifting a close friend up at moments when they’re getting down about themselves. Saying negative things about who they are, their body image, behaviours, personalities… You find yourself reassuring and supporting them on what amazing people they are, how gorgeous they are, and their potential. But then you go back to your life, and un-comfortably settle into similar negative self-talk.
Be a best friend to yourself!! Talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend – a simple way of looking at it. Start reassuring yourself with the same language, thoughts, and ideas that you would if your best friend was open about those thoughts with you.
This video shows what’s wrong with how we view and talk about our own bodies. This is what we do to ourselves.
I recently heard this quote that is fitting when you learn how to switch off the negative self talk:
You’re never alone if you love the one you’re alone with.
